Upgrade Your Brakes For Less - by CarHavn
Updated: Sep 21
Why going aftermarket is a great idea - with the right products
Service Advisors at overpriced franchised dealers are trained to use the word 'aftermarket' as s put-down. The reality is that major car manufacturers like VAG Group (Audi/VW/Porsche), BMW Group (BMW/MINI), Jaguar Land Rover, specialize in designing and building great cars - but buy many parts from trusted suppliers.
You can use this to your advantage to upgrade for less.
You see, at the overpriced franchised dealer you're not really getting 'Audi brakes'. There's no such thing. Audi buys discs, pads, and sensors from Textar, ATE, or BOWA, and then market them in a pretty box with four rings on it.
CarHavn uses a better brake setup:
Legendary Zimmerman rotors (made in Germany), with a special zinc-based protective coating they call Z-coat
Akebono brake pads, made in the USA with a Euro-specific formulation, low in dust and noise
An OEM sensor, typically BOWA or Textar.
Unlike generalist or national franchise shops that don't have the right equipment, we can reset the indicator on the dashboard. You have no idea how many times we get the 'can you reset the Brake light on my dash?' call. We never do - we only do it for jobs we do.
